Donors' gifts help the Voinovich School to restore and recover Appalachia's streams and wetlands

The Ohio University Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service's Stream + Wetlands Foundation Support Fund supports watershed restoration and research

Here's how gifts to the Stream + Wetlands Foundation Support Fund work:

  • $1000 could allow for biological field data collection and analysis in ongoing coal mine restoration activities
  • $500 could support chemical laboratory analysis allowing for understanding, detection, and correction of water quality issues
  • $250 could pay for water quality sampling supplies to begin to understand water quality conditions
  • $100 could support a day of travel to investigate watershed impairment, allowing faculty, staff, or students to plan future watershed restoration activities

The Voinovich School conducts and collaborates on ongoing watershed research programs with faculty, students, and staff in the coal-bearing region of Ohio and Appalachia. The School is working to understand water quality through chemical and biological sampling, monitoring watersheds, and is actively working to restore and recover Appalachia's streams and wetlands.

Your gift to environmental sustainability efforts in the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service supports these urgent projects by:

  • Providing students with environmental learning opportunities working alongside the Voinovich School's environmental and sustainability professional staff on applied watershed projects
  • Helping fund 2-year graduate stipends for students working on applied watershed research and activities from across various colleges on campus, plus additional hourly student time for assistance in the field
  • Inviting faculty working in Environmental Studies, Geological Sciences, Biological Sciences and Botanical Science to contribute to research projects
  • Paying for travel for professional staff, students, and faculty, supplies to conduct research and activities, and conference registrations to present at regional and national conferences

Make a gift today in support of watershed restoration and research. Thank you!

A Successful Partnership

The Voinovich School and the Stream + Wetlands Foundation have worked together to preserve, enhance, restore, and create wetlands

This wonderful photo essay by 2018-19 Voinovich Photojournalism Fellow Christiana Botic is a great introduction to this work. The video, titled, "Planting our Future: Environmental Studies Applied Learning with the City of Amesville", has a description that reads "In celebration of Earth Day 2019, Ohio University's Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs teamed up with students from Amesville Elementary School to plant over 200 seedlings along Federal Creek. This applied educational effort will increase the vegetative buffer for the community and help reduce impacts from surrounding land use and flooding."
