“They came, we mentored them, and now they’re out there changing the world.” —Ms. B

Beatrice Selotlegeng, affectionately referred to as Ms. B by Ohio University and College of Business staff, faculty, and students, made the decision to retire from OHIO after 15 years of work.

Since traveling more than 8,000 miles from her home in Botswana (Africa) to Athens, Ohio, Ms. B has left lasting impacts on students from underrepresented backgrounds through her mentorship and advising roles. To honor Ms. B, and continue the support for students of underrepresented populations in the College of Business, the Beatrice Selotlegeng Scholarship was created. As Ms. B nears retirement, we invite you to honor Ms. B’s legacy with a gift that will benefit students for years to come.

Accomplishments

Before her arrival to Ohio University, Ms. B had experience in senior positions at Air Botswana, Botswana Business and Professional Women’s Association, as well as being involved in women’s organizations such as Women’s Finance House. In 2005 she made the official transition from Botswana to OHIO, and has been a Bobcat ever since.

In 2007, the first successful initiative for a Women’s Center at OU resulted in Ms. B becoming the Interim Director. Then-OU Provost Kathy Krendl announced the appointment, saying “We are fortunate to have someone like professor Selotlegeng to launch the Women's Center. She will be an effective leader, a strong advocate and an inspiring role model for women students, faculty and staff.” In a continued effort to provide women with more opportunities, she was the keynote speaker for the first-ever Athens Area Women’s Summit in 2017.

Impact

Ms. B’s career has focused on giving strength and support to those who need it, and the driving force behind her 15 years at Ohio University is the love and care she has for her students. Her first and last roles at OHIO have been acting as an advisor and mentor alongside running programs such as the Junior Executive Business Program and teaching management courses.
