Although this campaign has concluded, it's easy to give to Ohio University and support the J. Warren McClure School Advisory Board/Thomas Lonsbury Scholarship.
Let us now come together and accomplish our overall objective: to create opportunities. For those who knew Tom, he too would have found a way to persevere.
In 2002, Thomas Lonsbury — an avid golfer and member of the McClure School Advisory Board — suggested that the board establish a scholarship for outstanding students in the McClure ITS program and fund it with the proceeds of a golf classic. The Board agreed and promptly named Lonsbury chair of the Advisory Board Thomas Lonsbury Scholarship Golf Classic. Lonsbury chaired the event until his death in 2012. That year’s tournament was the first to be called the Lonsbury Memorial Scholarship Golf Classic. Advisory Board member Garon Gentzel took over leadership of the event until 2020, then passed the torch to new board member Nick Lathrop (who is leading this online effort and the Golf Classic event moving forward).
Proceeds from our event benefit the students of Ohio University J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies. The McClure School combined with the GRIDLab in 2019 and changed the School name to Emerging Communication Technologies while retaining the ITS major — see photo below of the name unveiling.
In the spring of 2020, the Advisory Board had the pleasure of awarding nine outstanding students the Thomas Lonsbury Memorial Scholarship. This continues the trend of presenting more than two awards in the same year, which would not be possible without your generous support and that of over 150 annual contributors to our fund. The ITS Advisory Board thanks you for your support!
