Celebrate the return of the Athens International Film + Video Festival and say, “Happy birthday!” to renowned, award-winning filmmaker Tony Buba, MFA ’76 (Film), by making a gift to the Tony and Jan Buba Film Scholarship!
Make a gift in any amount — say $78 to celebrate his 78th birthday? — to support this scholarship fund that Tony and his wife Jan established in 2019 to, as Tony says, “ease the (financial) pressure” and “to let students concentrate on their work.”
The scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the School of Film’s new BFA in Film program, one that attracts and retains a diverse group of students.
The goal: Raise $3,000 by midnight on October 25 for the Tony and Jan Buba Film Scholarship, to support student artists seeking to enroll in a transformational education and experience at the OHIO BFA in Film program.
Tony’s birthday falls on October 20, a date which happily coincides with the (twice postponed due to the pandemic) OHIO Athens International Film + Video Festival (AIFVF), happening now through October 24th in Athens!
Tony is back in Athens right now to serve as one of the fest’s jurors and to present his influential, 1988 underground documentary, “Lightning Over Braddock: A Rustbowl Fantasy.” After the screening, Tony will engage with student filmmakers in a talkback, answering their questions about his approach to his decades of documenting through film the lived experience of the people in his hometown of Braddock, Pennsylvania, an industrial suburb of Pittsburgh. Tony’s long-time dedication to OHIO’s future filmmakers, to AIFVF, and his and Jan’s financial support of students through the Tony and Jan Buba Film Scholarship is truly unparalleled.
The Tony and Jan Buba Film Scholarship fundraising campaign ends at midnight on Monday, October 25! Say “Happy birthday!” to Tony and give today!
It's like buying your ticket at the counter for a 9:15 showing
Happy 78th Birthday, Tony Buba! We hope your celebration is filled with countless minutes of great film and gives you many happy memories!
