PROJECT PURPOSE

A locker room is a safe space, a sanctuary where team bonds are forged, aspirations are nurtured, and dreams are realized. Every athlete should have access to facilities that reflect their dedication, sacrifice, and passion for the game.

This project signals to these extraordinary young women that their hard work is valued. It also creates an environment where they can thrive and excel both on and off the court.

We have launched an initiative to enhance the overall locker room experience for our Ohio University Women's Basketball Program. We invite you to be part of this vital transformation. Your support will not only improve the physical space but also send a powerful message: that our community and alumni support OHIO Women's Basketball, that we believe in the power of sport and support young women as future leaders.

WHAT GIVING WILL IMPACT

Gifts to this campaign will have a significant impact, including the following:

  • Creating private, individualized shower facilities
  • Supporting an initiative led by the student-athletes
  • Recruiting

DESIGNED BY STUDENT-ATHLETES, FOR CURRENT ATHLETES

This initiative was inspired by former Women's Basketball player Ann Freeman '92, who returned to campus and sought to improve the experience for our Women's Basketball student-athletes. As such, she tasked a group of players to gain consensus on what initiative would have the biggest impact on their experience and future recruits. This project jumped to the top of this list.

At the time, senior Mechanical Engineering major and Forward Gabby Burris '22 took the project a bit further as designed the new shower facilities as a part of her senior project. She even developed preliminary blueprints and designs based on feedback from her teammates.

These are two examples of the excellence that our Women's Basketball student-athletes and alumni display each and every day.
