The Ohio Bobcat Club (OBC) spoke with Tim:

OBC:What does the wrestling program mean to you? 

Tim: Ohio University Wrestling will always be a special part of my life. This program gave me the tools to be successful in life. Work ethic. Goal setting. Mental toughness. Ability to push yourself farther than you ever imagined. Teamwork. Relationships. Hard work. All are traits I have been able to take away from this program. Every year there are 25-30 kids that have the lucky opportunity to learn these traits. It’s a gift you do not realize until you are older. Some of favorite memories and friends are from this program.

OBC: How did the wrestling program shape your life after graduation? 

Tim: Wrestling at OU gave me the confidence that if I worked hard I could achieve whatever I wanted. Ohio U and wrestling produced many relationships that I still utilize today in business. I have a framed picture of a quote from Dan Gable in my office that reads “Once you have wrestled, everything else is easy!” This is so true. Whenever I have a tough day, I look at this frame and remember all the buddy carries up hills, long runs, and stadium stair workouts at OU. A little adversity at work is nothing compared to what our bodies endured during workouts or wrestling in the NCAA Championships.

OBC: Is there anything else you'd like to share? 

Tim: Blessed to be able to help Ohio U Wrestling. The more support we can give to this program, the better chance we can get back to a top 25 program that cracks the top 10 from time to time. Every kid that graduates from this program and contributes to society is what it is all about!

OBC:What does the wrestling program mean to you? 

John: I like being part of a team. It was important to me growing up, and it’s important to me now. During my time at OU, we were a pretty good wrestling team with a couple of guys that were outstanding. I wasn’t a great wrestler but being part of that team gave me a purpose and was part of my identity. I like being surrounded by people that are better, smarter, and more successful than I am. It inspires me to focus on my own personal and professional development. 

OBC: How did the wrestling program shape your life after graduation? 

John: My four years in that program forged the mental toughness that has been key to my success in my career and as a father. Some of my best friends and business partners are my former teammates, and the unique experiences we shared connect us in ways outsiders don’t understand. 

OBC: Is there anything else you'd like to share? 

John: I owe a significant debt to the OU wrestling program, and I am proud to be able to repay that debt through my support now. I left the wrestling room after graduation in 1988 disappointed that I didn’t earn a place for my name on the wall. I am still determined to find a way to do that one way or another.
